Glen Burnie, Md. (February 6, 2008) – John S. Connor, Inc., a full service logistics company based in Glen Burnie, Md., has announced that it has been achieving high customer acceptance and usage of its weekly LCL (Less-than-Container load) direct shipments from Shanghai to the Port of Baltimore, as it nears the one-year anniversary of the service.
The service was initiated in March, 2007 in a strategic alliance with Orient Star Group, a logistics company and licensed NVOCC forwarder with 18 offices throughout Asia. This was the first, and is still the only, exclusive and direct service of its kind from Shanghai to Baltimore. “We started this service to offer shippers a way to avoid the congestion delays that are experienced in other east coast ports,” stated Lee Connor, president.
John S. Connor customers are obviously very pleased with the service, with 20 customers already realizing the advantages. Those customers represent such diversified industries as manufacturing, consumer goods, printed matter, catalogue merchandise and the medical industry.
Richard Higgins, director of sales and marketing at Connor, said, “In addition to avoiding the congestion, our customers like the lower cost, and savings in inland deliveries and container freight station unloading charges. In fact, we have gained ten new accounts because of the service.”
As a result of the success of the direct LCL service, John S. Connor is looking to expand to other major cities’ container freight stations via Baltimore to Philadelphia, Norfolk, Delaware, Pittsburgh and West Virginia.
