| Export Demurrage, Detention and Cargo Receipt Changes |
| Ocean carriers and terminals are starting
to make general changes to policy in regards to handling demurrage,
detention and cargo receipt for all export cargo received at U.S. and Canadian
rail and ocean terminals.
New Export Cargo Receipt Policy: For cargo departing all North American ocean and rail terminals, export cargo arriving at terminals prior to 7 calendar days will not be accepted. Cargo receipt will not begin until 7 calendar days prior to cutoff. Export Free Time and Demurrage: Free time for cargo received at all North American ocean and rail terminals will be 7 calendar days. Free time will commence at 0800 the first calendar day after the equipment arrives at an ocean or rail terminal. After free time expires, demurrage will begin to accrue for each calendar day any export container remains on a terminal prior to departure. This includes cargo which is rolled to a future vessel. Export Detention: Export detention free time for dry cargo will be 5 days. Export Detention free time for reefer cargo will be 3 days. When free time expires, detention will accrue for every calendar day until equipment is returned to the correct terminal. Please be aware that these are general guidelines. Please check specifics at the ports you will be shipping through.
