| CBP Jump Team into Hong Kong |
Exporters have been notified by the Hong Kong Trade and Industry Dept. that a CBP Jump Team will be visiting Textile factories in August. The purpose of these visits remains to validate the country of origin claim being used on entry documentation, since goods now generally go through multi-country production. CBP is finding it to be more difficult to distinguish between those garments legitimately made in a given country from those being transshipped. It has be estimated that a value as high as $8 billion a year have been transhipped. With over 45% of all import duties collected by CBP relate to textile shipments, it continues to remain a high priority area. |
