Possible EU Sanctions on U.S. Exports

The European Commission (EC) issued a press release in September 2002 announcing a preliminary list of U.S. products that could be subject to sanctions of up to 100% additional Duty (in addition to the current applicable duty) as a result of its dispute over the U.S. Foreign Sales Corporation and Extraterritorial Income Exclusion Act tax law.

The World Trade Organization ruled this U.S. law contravenes international trade rules. As a result, the World Trade Organization authorized duty retaliation by the European Union.
